Kelp Forest Monitoring Adventure

Welcome to Cape RADD’s Kayak for Science Experience, where adventure meets conservation! Our unique ecotourism experience combines the thrill of kayaking with the opportunity to assist marine biologists in monitoring distribution and density of the fascinating kelp forests of False Bay.

What We Offer:

  1. Guided Kayak Tours:
    • Hop into one of our sturdy sea kayaks and paddle alongside our marine guides. Enjoy breathtaking views of False Bay’s rugged coastline as you paddle these biodiverse waters.
  2. Kelp Forest Exploration:
    • Paddle into the heart of the kelp forests—the underwater jungles that harbor incredible biodiversity. Learn about the importance of kelp ecosystems and their role in supporting marine life whilst contributing to our Kelp health study. Actively participate in collecting kelp bed baseline density and distribution data on local Ecklonia maxima kelp species. This data provides information on how climate and ocean conditions are effecting kelp beds.
  3. Educational Insights:
    • Our marine biologists will share their knowledge about kelp ecology, the creatures that call these forests home, and the threats they face. Gain a deeper understanding of marine conservation whilst having lots of fun with the family.
